Below are links and descriptions of a few websites that I've found helpful in planning lessons and finding content-related literature for students.
Kidblog - Free
This is a great website to get your students writing and publishing. Students write, publish and comment on classmates' blogs. Students love seeing their work published and reading other posts. |
Popplet - Free
Students can create e-graphic organizers to use for study, sharing and electronic presentations. Great for use with tablets, too. |
Glogster - Annual Fee
This website allows students to create electronic posters, projects and presentations. Students can add their own text, photos and videos. The registration fee is $39/year for elementary classrooms. There is a free seven-day trial to check it out. |

This .pdf is an exhaustive annotated bibliography from Michigan.gov. Check it out. |
Spelling City - Free (Upgrade subscription for a fee available)
This is a great website to create spelling and vocabulary lists for practice in the classroom and at home as well. Students (or teacher) enters the spelling words in the website and a quiz is generated. The automated voice says the word and it's definition, then the student types in the word. The student will receive instant feedback if s/he is correct or should try again. Students can print their results for the teacher. |
RubiStar - Free
This site can help you start planning (and complete) a rubric for any assessment. There are templates to create (and save) something unique, but you can search and use completed rubrics on the site. |
ThingLink - Free
This site is perfect for making still images interactive. Take a photo and elaborate on it adding text, additional photos, links, music and videos. This is a great for Social Studies primary source research. Use this to differentiate instruction - have students create their own ThingLinks to share with the class. |
